Mary McFarlin, M.A., C-SLDS, is a structured literacy specialist, national presenter, and founder of Sound Literacy Solutions LLC. She is the creator of The Morphology Kit®, a multicomponent instructional framework that integrates phonology, orthography, morphology, semantics, and syntax to support proficient reading, spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension.

For the past 20 years, Mary has worked with students, educators, and families to help readers become confident, successful learners. After years of working directly with upper elementary and middle school students, she recognized the need for engaging, research-based morphology instruction that extends beyond phonics and supports increasingly complex reading and writing demands.

Today, Mary develops professional learning, instructional resources, and online courses that help educators translate the science of reading into meaningful classroom practice. She presents nationally on structured literacy and morphology instruction and serves on the Board of Directors for the Washington State branch of the International Dyslexia Association.

Mary's work emphasizes explicit, systematic morphology instruction within a structured literacy framework, helping educators integrate phonology, orthography, morphology, semantics, and syntax to build flexible word knowledge and support all learners—including students with dyslexia, multilingual learners, and those who continue to struggle with literacy beyond the primary grades.

Through The Morphology Kit® and Sound Literacy Solutions, Mary's mission is to equip educators with practical, research-informed tools that make morphology engaging, accessible, and effective for every learner.
